EUR 153.83) for ages 18-39. 10% discount when paying 364 days upfront. Prices rise with age; 40+ bands only shown in the on-site calculator (not retrieved - no forms submitted). Note: SafetyWing's own FAQ page still lists USD 67.72/4 weeks (Essential) and USD 161.50/month (Complete), conflicting with the landing/pricing pages verified the same day.

Strengths

  • Subscription model: Essential auto-extends every 28 days (5-364 days per policy) and can be bought while already abroad; coverage in 170+ countries
  • No deductible on either plan; Essential also includes travel benefits (lost checked luggage, trip interruption, evacuation from local unrest)
  • Complete is full health insurance (USD 1.5M/year) including routine and preventive care, mental health, cancer treatment and limited maternity; renewable for life if enrolled before age 64
  • Visa letter / certificate of coverage downloadable from the member dashboard as proof of insurance for visa applications (Schengen explicitly referenced in official FAQ)

Limitations

  • Essential excludes pre-existing conditions, chronic conditions, cancer, mental health and routine/preventive care; pregnancy covered only for complications
  • USA covered only via add-on (non-US citizens/residents only, with USD 100 ER / USD 50 urgent-care co-pays); US citizens/residents cannot be covered in the USA at all
  • Home-country coverage on Essential is limited: 30 days per visit per 90 days of coverage on 4-weekly billing (15 days if home country is USA); up to 179 days total under one-off annual payment
  • SafetyWing states it cannot guarantee that either plan will be accepted by every visa authority; Essential enrollment closes at age 70
